As an abstract photographer I search for places and subjects where the borders between what is familiar and known disappear into new landscapes—places where form, color, line and shadow cohere fleetingly in strange, mysterious and at times profound ways.
I am drawn to the immediacy and surprise of nature photography in the field. At extreme magnification an image appears and as suddenly disappears. A breeze, a shadow, a slight shift of position reveals ever changing and challenging compositions.
There is movement and transformation going on all the time—a panoply of worlds within worlds both surreal and sublime. There is no stasis, only a circle of beginnings and transformations.
When I am there, fully present with camera in hand, I feel part of something larger than self--something at once mystical and transcendent.
